These instructions assume that you are running Apple iOS 7 or greater on the iPad 4. This list of instructions show you how to connect to Beats Pill 2 speakers to the iPad 4. Note that this page refers to the Beats Pill 2 and not the original Beats Pill first generation, visit the Beats page for the full range of Beats bluetooth speakers. Before connecting Beats Pill 2 speakers to anything we recommend downloading the latest Beats firmware from the official Beats Pill support site [2] using the Beats update tool.

Step by step instructions on how to pair the iPad 4 to a Beats Pill wirelessly using bluetooth.

  1. The following instructions describe how to pair a Beats Pill with the iPad 4. First turn on the Beats Pill by holding the power button, the power button is located the top of the Bluetooth speaker. Then press the 'b' for around three seconds until the Bluetooth LED found at the back of the Pill quickly flashes white. This indicates that the speaker is in pairing mode.
  2. From the home screen on the iPad 4 open the Settings control panel, then go to the Bluetooth menu and turn the Bluetooth option on.
  3. Underneath select Beats Pill from the list of nearby devices to connect to the iPad, it will then say "Paired" next to the name of the device.
  4. The Beats Pill and the iPad 4 are now ready to be used to play music. Tapping on the AirPlay icon in any iOS application on the tablet that plays audio will bring up a list of devices where you will be able to toggle between the headphones, loudspeaker and a Beats Pill. When the speaker has been paired with the iPad 4 the Bluetooth LED will glow solid white.
  5. Next time you can turn on the Beats Pill speaker and it will automatically connect to the iPad 4 without needing to pair again, just turn both devices on and wait for the Bluetooth LED to glow solid white. The Beats Pill can pair with up to eight devices, each time it is turned on it will try to connect with the the iPad 4 unless you connection another device.

  1. These instructions show you how to connect the iPad 4 to a Beats Pill using a cable to play audio. Firstly locate the headphone socket on the top right of the iPad.
  2. With the Beats Pill turned off locate the IN port located behind the speaker next to the OUT port.
  3. Connect the headphone socket on the iPad 4 to the IN on the Beats Pill port using a 3.5mm stereo male to 3.5mm stereo male cable [4].
  4. Any audio from the iPad 4the tablet will stop playing on the loudspeaker and play on a Beats Pill instead.
  5. After switching on the speaker you should be playing music from the iPad 4. The Beats Pill and the iPad 4 are now connected and can to be used to play audio. [AD]
